Beyond the Vineyard: The Jumilla Experience at Los Cuatro Vientos

Ancient Vines & Organic Roots

The landscape surrounding us has been shaped by over 5,000 years of winemaking. Here, the Monastrell grape is king. It thrives in our high-altitude limestone soil and 3,000 hours of annual sunshine. Because our air is naturally dry, many neighbouring vineyards follow organic traditions by default, resulting in a pure, unforced flavor in every glass.

“Entre Tierras”

Our Border Story

Our B&B sits at a unique crossroads where Jumilla meets Pinoso and Yecla. This is so central to our identity that it defines the wine we serve. Our featured wine, Entre Tierras (Between Lands), is grown in fields that straddle these invisible borders. Because it doesn't fit into a single official category, it remains an authentic local secret that we love sharing with our guests.

Jumilla:

Visit world-renowned estates like Juan Gil or the technical Casa Castillo. For a more spontaneous visit, we highly recommend Silvano García in the town center; they are famous for their sensory "aroma room" and are excellent for guests who prefer to walk in without a prior appointment.

Pinoso:

Just over the border in the Alicante province, Pinoso is home to Bodegas Volver. While they are famous for their Jumilla labels, their impressive modern winery is located here. It is an essential stop for fans of the "Tarima Hill" and "Triga" ranges

Yecla:

A short drive away, the Yecla region is anchored by the family-run Bodegas Castaño. They are the pioneers of the area and offer very professional, English-friendly tours that showcase the unique high-altitude character of Yecla wines.

The Heartland of Monastrell

🍷🍷

At the heart of Spain’s wine country, Los Cuatro Vientos is defined by the Monastrell grape's. These high-altitude, sun-soaked vines produce bold, velvety reds with hints of dark fruit and spice. ☀️⛰️ From our ancient soils to your glass on the terrace, experience the true spirit of this rugged Mediterranean land. 🥂✨

Our location puts you within easy reach of three distinct DOP (Protected Denomination of Origin) regions. DOP Jumilla is a world-class powerhouse boasting over 40 registered bodegas 🏰 and a global reputation for organic wines. Nearby DOP Yecla is a hidden gem 💎, famous for elegant, mineral-rich reds, while Pinoso (DOP Alicante) 🌬️ offers robust styles alongside the legendary Fondillón—a rare, naturally sweet wine aged for decades. ✨

This hidden gem in the hamlet of Cañada del Trigo was the very first winery we visited in 2014 during our property search. It marks the true beginning of our journey here. Established in 1888, it is one of the oldest cellars in Jumilla—a place so historic that King Juan Carlos I once visited to experience its atmosphere firsthand.   The Full Story The Heritage of 12-Month Barrels While many have modernized,  Los Gabrieles  remains a step back in time. The bodega is famous for its Crianza, where the wine is aged for 12 months in seasoned oak barrels. They still use the traditional family processes and manual methods that have been passed down since the 19th century.  An Untouched Experience For us, the draw is the authenticity of the space. It is a tiny, family-run operation where you can still feel the 1888 roots in the cool, vaulted architecture. It offers a rare, private glimpse into the "Old World" of Spanish wine history in a quiet village setting.  Visiting Information Location: Calle Azorín, Cañada del Trigo (Los Gabrieles), Jumilla Tuesday – Friday: 09:30–13:30 | 16:30–19:00 Saturday & Sunday: 09:30–13:30 Monday: Closed

Carche Bodega Trio

& Jumsal Salt Ponds 🍇🧂

Just a short drive from Los Cuatro Vientos, the Sierra del Carche valley combines world-class wine with ancient salt works. This scenic loop is a must-visit for guests looking to explore Jumilla’s diverse landscape. 🏔️

Bodega Los Gabrieles: Where Our Story Began 🍷🪵

Exhausted from house hunting back in 2015, we stumbled into this bodega—our very first stop in the region. Long before we found the house that became Los Cuatro Vientos B&B, this tiny, family-run spot showed us the true soul of the village. Walking inside is a total time warp and remains relatively unchanged since 1888. ✨

For us, it’s all about the heritage. The wine is local and straightforward—we especially love the bold Crianza and lovely dessert wine—but the real charm is the history. 🍷🍇 It’s also our go-to for local olive oil and traditional liquors. 🫒🍸 If you want a genuine, no-frills taste of the life we fell in love with, this gem is a must! 💎✨

Award-Winning Bodegas Viña Elena 🍷✨

Our guests constantly rave about their afternoons spent at this family-run gem, where the food is just as spectacular as the wine! 🥘 As a Sol Repsol winner, their kitchen creates absolute magic by pairing seasonal local dishes with their famous Familia Pacheco and Bruma del Estrecho labels. 🍇
