Sightseeing
Come and explore on foot, by bike or by car this beautiful area of unspoiled countryside with its rich tapestry of vineyards, almond plantations, and olive groves before sampling the delights of the local food and wine. The historic towns of Jumilla and Yecla are within easy reach with their world-renowned wines where you can visit the cellars and see the wine elaboration process before sampling a range of their award-winning wines. A favorite of ours is our house red (vino tinto) made from the Monastrell grape at the local Bodega Los Gabrieles that has been making Crianza since 1888.
For us, the paella in the local bar in Torre del Rico is not to be missed for its genuine authenticity as is sampling a menu del dia or one of the local delicacies in one of the many local bars and restaurants.
We have many interesting towns and villages in the region with their own unique architecture and character. Most have street markets where you can try fresh produce from local farms throughout the week. Our nearest town of Pinoso is known for its marble and rock salt and is where you have a range of banks, pharmacies independent shops and supermarkets as well as a good selection of restaurants and bars to cater for all tastes and needs.
The local traditions are a sight to be seen with many street processions around Easter and throughout the year. Virtually all villages and towns have some form of fiesta between June and September with Pinoso celebrating theirs between 1st - 10th August and Jumilla celebrating its wine production during the summer months and is well worth experiencing as everybody goes into the party mood and really gives a fantastic insight into "real Spanish life".
We have so many historic attractions including the hilltop castle towns of Sax, Yecla, and Cieza within easy reach as is the Gaudi inspired Santuario de Santa María Magdalena near Novelda and the Sanctuary of Hope in Calaspera. For those who like to shop the city of Murcia is under an hour away with its ornate cathedral, traditional shops, and open plazas offering a great variety of products for all tastes.
